Western Bulldogs vice-captain Jordan Roughead has committed to the Club for another three years, putting pen to paper on a new contract extension.

A vital cog in defence, Roughead's signature is welcome news and comes just a week after teammate Luke Dahlhaus inked a new three year deal.

The 24-year-old has been a consistent contributor and reliable defender, ranking 2nd and 9th in the competition for total one percenters over the past two seasons.

Roughead said his decision to re-sign was a simple one, and that he is looking forward to the next three years.

"I grew up barracking for the Club, and it was a dream come true to be drafted here," Roughead said.

"My next big focus is helping our team improve and get the success i know we're capable of."

Fresh from securing an impressive ten point victory against West Coast on Saturday night, Roughead is optimistic about the Dogs’ chances this season.

“It’s an exciting time and I’m an eternal optimist so I don’t see why this year can’t be a really exciting one for us.

“We’ve got some fantastically talented kids coming through, getting some fantastic tutelage from the older guys.

List Manager Jason McCartney said Roughead's signature was significant for the Club.

"Jordan is a talented, highly competitive player and is widely respected at our Club. We are thrilled to have him re-commit.

"From a leadership standpoint, he is an excellent contributor, which is important particularly with a young list."

Recruited from North Ballarat, Roughead has played 73 career games since being drafted with pick 31 in the 2008 National Draft.
