The latest milestone in the Eureka Stadium redevelopment has been achieved, with the installation of the new playing surface commencing late last week.
Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, joined Western Bulldogs Chief Operating Officer, Michael Quinn, Ballarat Engagement Manager, Brett Goodes, Ballarat Mayor, Des Hudson, and local members Geoff Howard and Sharon Knight at the Stadium to inspect the commencement of the turf laying process.
The new playing surface will be available for existing tenant club North Ballarat (VFL) and the North Ballarat Rebels (TAC Cup) to use in the upcoming 2016 season.
Other works to have already begun on the Eureka Stadium Project are:
- Installing watering and drainage systems.
- Reducing the oval size to be the same as Etihad Stadium, and making more room for proposed grandstands and match day facilities.
- Upgrading change-rooms and match day facilities to AFL standard.
- Upgrading stadium seating, providing public shelters, toilets for all-abilities access, catering and food beverage facilities and ticketing infrastructure.
- Improving lighting around the main oval and providing a video and electronic scoreboard.
- The Western Bulldogs’ vision is to play home and away matches at the regional venue from 2017.
