Western Bulldogs skipper Robert Murphy will be awarded a life membership by the AFL for services to Australian Football next month.

The 34-year-old Murphy will be officially inducted at the 2016 Annual General Meeting, joining 12 other players and umpires who automatically qualify having reached 300 total games as an umpire, player or coach.

Murphy has played 292 senior games for the Bulldogs since being taken at pick 13 by the Club in 1999, as well as 25 pre-season games.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Gillon McLachlan said that the Commission congratulated each inductee and looked forward to thanking each of them personally for their services to the game at the season launch.

Murphy enjoyed a career year in 2015, being named captain of the All-Australian team and leading his Club to a finals appearance in his first year as Bulldogs skipper.

Murphy will again lead the Dogs in 2016.
