Three fixtures have been confirmed for the Western Bulldogs’ Women’s Team, following the AFL’s weekend announcement of a 10-match Women’s Exhibition Series in 2016.

The Bulldogs Women’s Team’s opening match will be played at Highgate Recreational Reserve in Craigieburn on Sunday March 6 against Melbourne, following the NAB Challenge match between the two Clubs.

The Bulldogs’ second round match will be against a combined Western Australian side at Etihad Stadium on Sunday 5 June, as a curtain-raiser to the Round 11 AFL clash between the Bulldogs and West Coast.

The final round is currently scheduled as a Saturday night fixture against Melbourne, which will be plated on Saturday 3 September, on the weekend between Round 23 of the AFL Premiership Season and the first week of the AFL Finals Series.

This third match will be played for the Hampson-Hardemann Cup, with the two sides to be comprised of the best senior female footballers from across the country.

Round One’s team will include players currently training in the AFL Victoria Women’s Academy program, while Round Two line-ups involves state representative matches featuring the best players from around the country.

AFL General Manager Game and Market Development Simon Lethlean said the Women’s Exhibition Series will showcase the growing depth of women’s football.

“As we countdown to the national competition in 2017, this series of exhibition matches will open up more opportunities to feature our leading players that are currently training with state academies across the country,” he explained.

“We are currently working with our venue and broadcast partners to maximise access and coverage opportunities throughout the exhibition match series.”
