The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation’s Sons of the West Premiership Season program will begin sessions on May 22nd, 2017.

This year’s 10-week Premiership Season will cover the importance of maintaining mental and physical health, as well as aiming to educate participants on the effects of violence against women. Similarly, a primary focus will be placed upon social inclusion during the 2017 Premiership Season.

Hearing from guest speakers each week, Sons of the West participants will be exposed to a vast range of topics that widely affect the overall health of men, in Western Victoria.

The first 4 weeks will focus on mental health, with sessions based on mental fitness, self-awareness, support services and local referral pathways.

Following these sessions, participants will be introduced to nutrition with various Diabetes Victoria guest speakers in attendance.

A large focus will be placed on prostate cancer and cardiovascular health over the course of the program, with visits from the EJ Whitten Foundation and the Heart Foundation.

The tail end of the program will include sessions based on domestic violence and addiction featuring guest speakers from Gambler’s Help and NIRODAH.

Sons of the West has helped over 4000 men better their health through support and education since 2014

The statistics tell us that men out west are some of the unhealthiest in Victoria and the Dogs have made it their mission to chip away at these numbers by raising awareness and helping men live better, eat better and get back into the game of life.

Through using sport as an engagement tool, Sons of the West has been able to attract, up-skill and empower a vulnerable cohort of men across Victoria’s West.

While working together with likeminded organisations, The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation aim to educate men in Victoria’s west upon the importance of maintaining optimal health and provide them with the steps to get there.

During the 2017 Sons of the West Preseason program, over 600 men came along to sessions, with many participants confirming they would continue to the Premiership Season program.

To be part of Australia’s biggest men’s health program, all you need to do is to turn up to any one of the below venues and you’re on your way to a happier and healthier lifestyle.
