When it happened it sent social media into a tail-spin.

Caleb Daniel’s helmet, the one that Mum, Karen, had bought him when he suited up for the Edwardstown Football Club’s under-8s team was no more, caught up in a tackle during Friday night’s win over the Blues.

Soon, people were putting their own helmets outside their front door in honour of the fallen headgear, and Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said the Club should hold a burial of sorts at the Kennel during the week.

But Caleb himself, speaking to Fox Sports post-match, revealed that it may actually not be the last we see of it, which is likely music to the ears of Mrs. Daniel over in Adelaide.

“One of the buckles broke. But we’ll get it repaired on Monday. It’s definitely fixable. It’ll be alright.

“We haven’t had it looked at too thoroughly yet, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be able to get it fixed.”
