What better day than St Patrick's Day to take a look at the Patricks to have represented the Western Bulldogs over the years.

There have been eight Patricks,   Pats and Paddys at the Bulldogs since the club joined the V/AFL in 1925 and, interestingly, six have links to other clubs.

Paddy O'Brien who played 15 games for Footscray in 1925-26, had previously made 167 appearances for Carlton, while Paddy Scanlan played an even 100 games for South Melbourne before a two-year, 33-game stint at the Kennel in 1997-98.

Pat Cahill played 47 games for Footscray between 1939 and 1947 before playing a further three with St Kilda.

The Bulldogs' most prolific Patrick, in terms of games played, Patrick Bowden, appeared in 50 matches with the Dogs from 2001 and 2005 before joining his brother Joel at Richmond.

Patrick Veszpremi played 11 games for the Sydney Swans before appearing in the red, white and blue jumper 12 times between 2011 and 2013, while Patrick Wiggins, who also played 12 games for the Bulldogs between 2000 and 2003, has a brother - Simon - who played 116 games for Carlton.

The Bulldogs other two Pats are Pat Hand, who played 63 matches for Footscray in the 1940s and Pat Fitzgerald, whose one and only game with the Bulldogs came in 1957.

None of the eight Bulldogs Paddys was actually born on St Patrick's Day, with Paddy O'Brien, who was born on April 16, 1893, the only one whose birthday comes anywhere near the iconic date.
