Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions

Saturday 20 June, 2015

7:20pm, Etihad Stadium

The Lions like the Dogs are coming off a bye and will be well-rested for the trip down south.

Although sitting 16th on the ladder after a 2-8 start to the year, with one of those wins coming against Port Adelaide at the Gabba – the Lions’ highlight of season 2015.

Dayne Beams has been a standout in his first year at the Club but has lacked support in the midfield.

The Lions however will be hungry to end a three-game losing streak, and should take confidence from the nail-biting win against the Dogs in round 12 last year.

Players to Watch

Dayne Beams

A shining light in a disappointing start to the year for the Lions, Beams is in the top 20 players in the AFL for most stats. He’s averaging 28 disposals a match, sitting 18th in the league, and is 12th for contested possession, sixth for centre clearances and ninth for inside 50s. He’s played every game in 2015 and has been one of the Lions’ most consistent performers. His highlight for the year came three weeks ago when he collected 38 disposals, ten marks and seven tackles in the Lions’ loss to St Kilda in round nine.

Stefan Martin

A dominant ruckman, Martin sits eighth in the competition for hit outs, including a massive 42-hit out game against the Suns in round five. Martin also collected 24 disposals that match, and is averaging 19 for the year. His work around the ground make him a damaging opponent, sitting 18th in the league for contested marks.
