Revisit the draft years that brought in the current crop of Bulldogs players, continuing with the year 2013.

TOM BOYD

The number one selection in the 2013 draft, Tom Boyd was originally recruited by the Giants.

Boyd returned home to Victoria at the end of the 2014 season via the trade period.

He played 14 games in his first season at the Club and the talented 20-year-old is an impressive prospect in the Dogs’ forward line.

MARCUS BONTEMPELLI

Taken with the Bulldogs fourth pick in the 2013 draft, Bontempelli has impressed beyond measure.

The 20-year-old was runner up in the Rising Star award in his first year, and was in 2015 named the AFL Coaches Association Best First Year Player.

He’s reached 37 games in just two years of football and is one of the competition’s most exciting young prospects.

MITCH HONEYCHURCH

A fearless midfielder/forward, Honeychurch was recruited from the Eastern Ranges.

The 20-year-old earned a Rising Star nomination in round two 2015 and played 11 games this season before suffering minor injury setbacks.

His tackle pressure is a highlight of his game and his courageous nature has won many admirers.

Simon Dalrymple (Western Bulldogs Recruiting Manager) on the 2013 draft

“Character side of things is crucial and we do a lot of work investigating their character… For instance Mitch Honeychurch was a classic example. We spoke to his part-time jobs, his school teachers and his club, we knew exactly the type of person he was and we’re really big on that part of the process.

“Bonti’s stuff from his school was outstanding, he’s just thriving in a full time system. We’re just so glad we picked him. Others probably rated him further out, we were prepared to go with him at pick four and we still see heaps of improvement left in him. He hasn’t even turned 20 yet, so he’s going to be a really good player for a long period of time.”
