The Bulldogs have secured Marcus Bontempelli until at least the end of 2017, with the first round draftee agreeing to a contract extension yesterday.

After making his debut in round five against Carlton, the 193cm utility has been quick to solidify his spot in the senior lineup – having not missed a game since round 10.

A standout performance against Collingwood in round 13 earned Bontempelli a Rising Star nomination, and a series of eye-catching moments since has firmed the 18-year-old as a favourite to take out the award at season’s end.

List Manager Jason McCartney said Bontempelli had made good progress in his first year at the Bulldogs and looked forward to his continued development alongside fellow teammates.

“Marcus has been a welcome addition to the Club and ticks all the boxes from character, work-ethic and ability,” McCartney said.

“He is part of a core group of players who we see as important in the Club’s future endeavours.”

Bontempelli was taken with the 4th overall pick in the 2013 AFL Draft, and has played 13 games in his debut season.
