President Peter Gordon has pledged that the Western Bulldogs will continue to invest in Victoria University (VU) Whitten Oval, indicating further infrastructure improvements are a priority in 2015.

Speaking at the Charles Sutton Medal last week, Gordon confessed his passion for the Bulldogs’ spiritual home has helped make it a priority for the organisation to look at ways to develop the West Footscray facility.

Gordon indicated the improvements would ensure the VU Whitten Oval continues to provide an elite training environment for the football department, but also meet the needs of the local community.

“Because of my somewhat irrational obsession with Whitten Oval, I’m really keen that we drive development of the Whitten Oval in to something like what it used to be, but also embracing the modern era,” said Gordon.

Gordon indicated the construction of fencing, a state of the art electronic scoreboard and new floodlights for the oval amongst key items on the agenda.

The improvements will be made with the fans in mind, and the aspiration of allowing VU Whitten Oval to continue to evolve as a community hub for the Bulldogs faithful and those who live in the Club’s Western back yard.

“We’re [making the improvements] because we want all of you, and all of our fans, to enjoy more of their weekend as Bulldogs fans.”

“Trying to take in both [VFL and AFL] games, trying to come to Whitten Oval and feel more part of it, and be more part of it and meet each other as part of it.”

“We believe as someone famous once said, if we build it they will come.”
