Season in short:

In a standout debut season for the Club, Goodes stormed into the round one side against Brisbane and never looked back. The 29-year-old AFL debutant played 13 matches before a broken arm ended his season prematurely. Goodes averaged 21 disposals and five marks per game while ranking 12th in the AFL for average rebound 50s. Twice managing 27 disposals as a medium defender, Goodes was instrumental in the round one win against Brisbane with 24 disposals at 88% efficiency and seven marks. The VFL convert also managed 25 possessions and 10 marks in a team-lifting effort against the GWS Giants.

Stat that mattered:

In just his first season at the kennel, Goodes led the Bulldogs in average rebound 50s, ranked fourth in average marks and seventh in average disposals.

What they said:

“I look at it as obviously they’ve shown a bit of faith in me, and that’s all I see it as, and I’ve still got to work hard and prove myself. Obviously I was fighting for that last spot last year on the rookie list, and to not have to fight for it this year – it doesn’t mean you can slack off – certainly is exciting and I’m looking forward to playing round one again. Even if I was on a rookie list again it was still going to be hard work this pre-season and hopefully playing games again.”

Pre-season focus:

There is increased competition for back six spots next season with the Club’s new additions creating healthy competition over summer — you can count on Goodes to maximise every opportunity over the summer to impress and solidify his position in the senior team.
