After kicking three goals in the first half, and trailing by 26 at the final change, the Bulldogs need to be ignited after a lacklustre performance against the Suns.

Enter Marcus Bontempelli. The midfielder led the charge in the final term, which saw the Bulldogs kick 10 goals, and record a 23-point victory in Cairns.

Bontempelli kicked two majors in the final term, while Liam Picken and Jack Macrae were also influential.

After kicking just one goal from 17 inside 50s in the third quarter, the Bulldogs kicked six majors from 10 inside 50s in the final term.

"Out of a really ordinary opening we turned it into a pretty significant night for the football club and for our team," Beveridge said following the match.

"You can only heap praise on our players for the way they stayed in the game and found a way under duress in a warmer climate when maybe we should be the ones dropping away at the end of the game.

"It's an outstanding effort."
