A number of fresh faces will be running out in Bulldogs colours for Footscray in the VFL in 2014 but there will also be some new names in the coaches box, with three new additions to the panel.

While VFL Coach Chris Maple and Development Coach Ashley Hansen will continue in their roles, three additional coaching roles have been introduced to bolster the VFL team.

Former GWS Development Coach Stewart Edge (defenders) and former West Coast player Chad Jones (forwards) have been added as line coaches.

“We think we’ve put together a really good group, Ash Hansen will coach the midfield, obviously a premiership player at AFL level,” Maple said.

“Chad Jones, a former teammate of Ashley’s at the West Coast Eagles, will coach the forwards… he finished playing WAFL football only last year, so he’s very enthusiastic and outstanding character and he will be a real asset to the place.

“Stewart Edge who was a line coach at GWS will coach the backline - Edge obviously brings AFL experience with his line coaching, he’s also worked with the AIS academy, so his knowledge and experience will be fantastic.”

A third role has been appointed to Brian Cordy, the father of current Bulldog Ayce, to oversee the coaching panel and provide guidance and advice.

“We’re also adding a bit of a Footscray flavour with Brian Cordy, coming into the box and effectively overseeing the box and watching the game and giving us feedback on our coaching,” he said.

“The other three boys, particularly Ash and Chad, are quite young and inexperienced, so he will be there for a bit of guidance – for myself as well and just keeping us all on track.

“[He will be] helping us with our coaching and just general football knowledge because he has been outstanding coach himself and just an old, experienced head in the box.”
