Bursts down the wing have always been part of Jason Tutt’s arsenal but his ability to use that speed to tackle was most noticeable in the 16-point win against Melbourne on Saturday night.

In a physically demanding encounter, the 22-year-old played a vital role in the win, particularly late where he kicked two crucial goals.

“It was pretty solid, there were a lot of stoppages and a lot of bodies hitting bodies, it’s just good to get a win,” Tutt said.

Such was the intensity around the ball, the Bulldogs laid a club record 108 tackles on Saturday and Tutt contributed a career-best eight of his own.

“Bringing that pressure as a forward and just trying to stick the tackles in there, I got a holding the ball in there which is always good, to hold them up,” he said.

Kicking the final score of the game with less than a minute remaining, Tutt continued to show his dependability in front of the goals.

“It was just a bit of reward for effort there, just pushing back and didn’t think it was going to sit up for me but it did and just put it through, so it’s good,” he said.

Tutt said the Bulldogs were steadfast on playing the game out until the end, and ensuring the ground was set-up in a particular way throughout the four quarters.

“Just to stick at it and get the structures right and play the way we had been playing all game,” he said.

“We thought we had it waiting there for us and luckily the boys took it and it was a really good win.”
