The Western Bulldogs today announced that Graham Lowe has decided to step down from his role as GM Football AFL.

Lowe made this decision to provide more balance between family and work, whilst also allowing time to pursue high performance leadership consultancy.

Speaking to westernbulldogs.com.au on Tuesday afternoon Lowe said, “It has been a privilege to have worked with such a highly committed and talented group of people and to have played a part in the Western Bulldogs journey over the past four years culminating in Premiership success.

“I want to especially thank Luke for his commitment to our partnership which has been a professional highlight for me. The time is now right for me and my young family, that I pursue opportunities within the culture and leadership development space."

Director of Football Chris Grant said, "Lowey has been a major contributor to our Football program over the past four and a half years and his commitment and loyalty to our people has assisted in the creation of a great program and working environment. We all understand and respect Lowey's decision to place family at the forefront and whilst Graham’s final full time day will be in early April, we are pleased to announce Graham will continue to support our 2017 program over the coming months during the transition of our new GM Football AFL.”

Grant also added Chris Maple has been appointed as the new GM, Football and will work closely with Lowe to ensure a smooth transition.

“Consideration was given to both internal and external candidates to fill this important role within our football department, and we are pleased to announce that Chris has accepted the position of GM Football AFL,” Grant said.

“This is not only testament to Chris’ expertise and ability, but is also a reflection of our environment which aims to support the continued growth and development of our people. Chris will also continue to be involved in the coaching program.”

Maple joined the Western Bulldogs as Development Coach in 2008 before taking on the role of Development Manager and Head Coach VFL, steering Footscray to a premiership in its first season in the state competition in 2014. In 2015, Maple became Head of Player Development before recently being elevated to the position of Coaching Performance Manager at the end of the 2016 season.

Senior Coach Luke Beveridge said, “Graham has been a great support for me and our program since my arrival at the end of 2014. We have worked closely together and I will be forever grateful for his loyalty, his guidance and the significant contribution he has made to the health of our Club.”
