Following the release of the 2018 NAB AFLW Fixture on Friday morning, westernbulldogs.com.au explores three of the season's key match-ups.

Western Bulldogs v Fremantle
Sunday, February 4, 4.35pm EDT
Victoria University Whitten Oval

Hard to go past the season opener as one of the games we’re most looking forward to.  It’ll almost be a year to the day (344 days exactly), since the girls last ran out onto the hallowed turf, and the anticipation to do it all again will be off the charts.  Who can resist footy in suburbia with the EJ stand packed, the outer packed with families and food trucks and two of the top 5 draft picks likely making their debut?

Western Bulldogs v Brisbane
Sunday, February 11, 3.35pm EST
South Pine Sports Complex

We could just as easily have thrown in the following week’s fixture against the Crows in Adelaide too because after last season’s 1-5 start Paul Groves will be very keen to get off to red hot start next season, and with only a seven game schedule every win is worth its weight in gold.  And what better way to start off the season than reeling off a couple of early wins against last season’s grand finalists?

Western Bulldogs v Melbourne
Saturday, March 17 7.10pm EDT
Victoria University Whitten Oval

The Round 4 clash under lights against the Blues was a candidate for the final slot here because who doesn’t love Friday night footy, but instead we’ve opted for the final round match against Melbourne at home.  There’s every chance that there could be a bit riding on this one and where there’s real consequences attached to the result the game is just better.  And then there’s the history we have with the Dees as women’s footy pioneers so that should count for something.  Oh, and Saturday night footy goes alright too.
