In a grinding contest, it was the Western Bulldogs who emerged 21-point victors over Carlton on Friday night.

The Bulldogs led at every change, as Luke Beveridge’s side, the youngest and least-experienced to be fielded this round, posted its second win of the year.

The Numbers

Marcus Bontempelli finished with 30 disposals, seven tackles and seven entries inside 50.

Jack Macrae (32 disposals), Lachie Hunter (29) and Matt Suckling (25) were also chief ball winners for the Dogs.

19-year-old Patrick Lipinski kicked a career high three goals in his third AFL game, and Billy Gowers kicked two in just his sixth match.

You Can Quote Me On That

"It was a pretty even contribution. I was really happy with one or two of the boys with the sacrifices they made for the team. Caleb (Daniel) was quite good trying to negate (Kade) Simpson, who's a good player, although he still got a bit of the ball. And ‘Bonti’ (Marcus Bontempelli) and Jongy (Lin Jong) did a good job on Patrick Cripps after quarter-time, I felt. They were important roles for the team.” – Senior Coach, Luke Beveridge.

“It was great to sing the song for the first time with all the boys, looking up to them when I was a bit younger and playing with a few of them now. It’s an awesome feeling.” Third gamer, Patrick Lipinski.
