The Western Bulldogs are mourning the passing of former Club President and lifelong supporter Nick Columb.

Bulldogs’ President Peter Gordon has offered the following statement on behalf of the Club:

We have been informed that former Club President Nick Columb passed away in Spain last night, two weeks after suffering a major stroke.

A lifelong Bulldogs supporter, Nick was a director of the Club for a number of years in the 1980s and assumed the Presidency of the Club in early 1989, in a particularly tumultuous period for the Club when it was under massive financial pressure and political pressure from the (then) VFL to merge and to re-locate away from the Whitten Oval.

He remained President until early October 1989 when he and all other then club directors were forced to resign as a VFL condition of the forced proposed merger.

He remained in the following years a steadfast supporter of the Club and had many close friends amongst the past players and officials of the Club.

I know that all Club members will join with me in mourning Nick’s passing, acknowledging his contribution and extending condolences and best wishes to his family and friends.
