It’s going to be quite the day on Grand Final Day 2017 when a list of greats rarely seen before in League history are loaded into the back of a conga line of four-wheel-drives for one final goodbye to the fans.

At the Bulldogs we’ve said goodbye to Robert Murphy and Matthew Boyd in the past seven days, while across the league a veritable who’s who of modern day greats have also pulled the pin.

So it got us thinking, is the 2017 retirement group the greatest ever? Here’s the list (so far).

Robert Murphy
Matthew Boyd
Luke Hodge
Nick Riewoldt
Sam Mitchell
Jobe Watson
Matt Priddis
Steve Johnson
Scott Thompson
Josh Gibson
Sean Dempster
Dennis Armfield
Ivan Maric
Jesse White

And it may not end there. Players like Leigh Montagna, Mark Lecras, Jarrod McVeigh, Drew Petrie, Tom Lonergan, Brent Stanton, Zac Dawson, Heath Hocking, Tendai Mzungu and even Gary Ablett could also call time. Of course, we hope they all go in but if not it would add significantly to an already loaded class list.

But if there is a group that rivals the Class of 17’, it was 2007, led by Bulldog royalty, Chris Grant and Luke Darcy.

Here’s the list, thanks to AFL Reddit.

Nathan Buckley
Mark Riccuito
James Hird
Chris Grant
Glenn Archer
Anthony Koutoufides

So, everyone at their best, perfect conditions at the MCG, who wins?
