The accolades for Luke Beveridge continue, with the Club’s Senior Coach nominated in the ‘Coach of the Year’ category in the upcoming AIS Sport Performance Awards.

After receiving the Sports Australia Hall of Fame ‘Spirit of Sport’ Award last month, Beveridge has been recognised on this occasion by the Australian Sports Commission for his role in leading the Bulldogs to their first premiership in 62-years in 2016.

Earlier in the year, Beveridge was recognised by his peers as the AFL Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Acting Australian Sports Commission CEO Matt Favier said representatives from over 15 sports have been selected amongst this year’s award nominees.

"You only need to look at the rugby union finalists to see a great example of opportunity in Australian sport," Favier said.

“The Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens team made history in Rio by claiming the first Olympic gold medal in their sport, while our Australian Men’s Wheelchair Rugby team – the Steelers – defended their Paralympic gold medal in Rio in thrilling fashion.

"The AIS Sport Performance Awards is an opportunity for the Australian sport sector to come together and celebrate remarkable achievements.”

Also nominated alongside Beveridge is Australian Olympic Team Sailing Coach Michael Blackburn,  Women’s Rugby 7’s Olympic Gold Medal Winning Coach Tim Walsh, and Wheelchair Rugby Paralympic Gold Medal Winning Coach Brad Dubberly.

In addition to Beveridge’s individual accolade, the Western Bulldogs have been nominated for popularly voted Sports Team of the Year award.

Other nominees for the Sports Team of the Year award include the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens Team, the Cronulla Sharks, Orica-BikeExchange Cycling Team, Queensland Firebirds Netball Team and the Australian Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay Team.
