Sitting ninth place on the AFL ladder, the Western Bulldogs have surprised many with their six and five start to the season.

Despite a 72-point win against Brisbane on Saturday night however, there’s no room for complacency heading into the second half of the year according to Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae

“Obviously we’re six and five and in a pretty good position going forward, and at the start of the year you’d probably take six and five,” said Macrae, speaking with Crocmedia’s Sportsday Radio on Monday night.

“But at the same point, we’re not satisfied with where we’re at and we’re really keen to get straight into St Kilda (on Saturday night).

“We’re happy with our performance on the weekend but there’s no complacency.”

The Dogs will take on St Kilda for the second time in seven weeks, losing the first after the Saints piled on 12 goals in the second half.

Macrae said that although it was a disappointing result, this week’s battle won’t be about redemption.

“Obviously it’s going to be built up from how it went down last time and obviously we’re keen to put in a better four-quarter performance.

“But in saying that, every week we come in looking to win and play well so I think the boys are pretty pumped for this weekend.”

The 20-year-old is enjoying a return to form after spending two games with the VFL in rounds seven and eight.

Macrae is averaging 30 disposals in the three games since returning to the senior side and continues to work on the defensive side of his game.

“(The focus was) just working on the quality side of my game and becoming a complete player and thriving to get the best out of myself.

“Intensity and effort in all the phases of the game were just some of the things the coaches were really keen to see me go back and work on and they’ve been amazing and they really just try to get the best out of you on and off the field.”
