Comedian Wil Anderson will headline a free event tonight from 7pm at Victoria University Whitten Oval to promote the Western Bulldogs Sons of the West community program.

The loyal Bulldogs member has thrown his support behind the initiative, which aims to improve the health of men living or working in our heartland – Melbourne’s west.

Open to all Sons of the West participants, the comedy night will be full of laughs, while also touching on the importance of men’s health – both mind and body.

Current Sons of the West participants are also encouraged to bring a friend along to tonight’s comedy event with Wil Anderson and recruit them to sign up and join the Bulldogs community program.

Tonight’s event looks to build on the success of Sunday’s Sons of the West expo, which saw 400 attend an information session at the kennel to receive free health checks.

Tonight’s comedy event will also  provide an insight into the program before it officially kicks off on Sunday 1 June 2014.

Sons of the West is a free 12 week health initiative aiming to help men living and working in Melbourne’s west to live healthier lives, through a range of activities and sessions.

Based in part on English Premier League powerhouse Liverpool FC’s highly successful men’s health program, Sons of the West is no-nonsense, easy to access and free.

Club greats Doug Hawkins, Tony Liberatore, Scott West, Brad Johnson and Steve Kretiuk will help deliver the program as ambassadors, each adopting an area of the west.

Program ambassador Doug Hawkins backed the Club initiative and was buoyed by the men who had registered their interest, both young and those with more life experience.

“It’s a good mixture of young and old and what the Club is doing, the Western Bulldogs, is fantastic – it’s a great concept and it’s going to be a winner,” Hawkins said.

As a personal trainer, former Bulldogs player Steve Kretiuk knows of the importance in living a healthy lifestyle and he is committed to helping participants see results.

“That’s the hardest thing taking that first step and making a commitment to get here – I think once they get involved and they start seeing results… it becomes quite addictive,” Kretiuk said.

“I’m a personal trainer… I see it every day of the week, so for me it’s just a natural progression into this program which I’m really enjoying.”

There will be some great giveaways and incentives for those who participate in the program including a free health show bag, Bulldogs memberships and Bulldogs gear.

So make sure you, your dad, brother, son or friends aged 18 or over sign up for the Sons of the West 12 week program today to change their life for the better.
