It’s official, the Western Bulldogs grand final triumph was one of the most talked about stories of the year, at least according to Facebook.

The social media giant has analysed Australians’ posts and the Bulldogs’ historic premiership win finished seventh overall, ahead of the Rio Olympics and Brexit.

Facebook’s process was simple – it analysed and aggregated users’ posts and tallied how many times a topic was mentioned.

The US Election was the year’s most talked about topic, followed by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, while shark attacks, the death of rock icon David Bowie and the Pokemon Go phenomenon rounded out the top five.
