When the Western Bulldogs break through the banner ahead of tonight’s AFLW clash with the Adelaide Crows at Victoria University Whitten Oval, you’ll hear the Club theme song like you’ve never heard it before.

Sons of the West has become Daughters of the West.

Peter Sullivan was involved with the re-recording of the original ‘Sons of the Scray’ in 1996 to reflect the Club’s name change from Footscray to the Western Bulldogs, and working with Melbourne singer Mish Fornito, he was again behind the boards on the latest iteration, updated to capture the spirit of our history making women’s team.

The origins of the song date back to the 1940s and is based on an old sea shanty called ‘Sons of the sea.'

You can hear the new version below.
