Western Bulldogs AFLW Captain, Katie Brennan has won the Swisse Wellness VFL Women’s Best and Fairest Award for her stellar season with the Darebin Falcons this year.

Despite missing four of the first seven games due to injury, Brennan nabbed an impressive 21 votes – polling in eight of her 10 games played in the 2017 season.

Followed closely by St Kilda Sharks defender Brianna Davey (17 votes) and Western Bulldogs AFLW Best and Fairest winners Emma Kearney (16 votes) and Ellie Blackburn (13 votes), Brennan soared to the top of the leaderboard after receiving the maximum three votes in five of her last seven games.

Receiving just four votes at the end of Round 7, Brennan quickly made her way up the leaderboard, polling in six of her last seven VFL appearances – taking the lead at the end of Round 12.

Kicking an outstanding 20 goals in her last three games, Brennan was also named the VFL Women’s leading goalkicker alongside Diamond Creek’s Chloe Molloy with 32 season goals.

The Bulldogs skipper kicked seven and eight in her second and third last games of the season against Seaford and St Kilda, respectively

Western Bulldogs Vice Captain, Ellie Blackburn spent a majority of the 2017 season atop the Best and Fairest leaderboard, polling in the first four games of her season with Melbourne University.

Bulldogs AFLW midfielder and Melbourne University teammate, Emma Kearney impressed throughout the season landing 16 votes over 13 games.

Brennan, Blackburn and Kearney were all named in the 2017 VFL Women’s Team of the year following their outstanding performances during the 2017 season.
