Dale Morris debuted on round 5, 2005 against the Adelaide Crows.  It was April 23rd and it was a Saturday.  It was also Chris Grant’s 300th game.

It seems like a long time ago because it was.  So let’s journey back to a simpler time to try and remember what it was like before Dale Morris became Dale Morris.

  • The Dogs finished 9th, Sydney won the flag, Ben Cousins won the Brownlow, Fraser Gehrig won the Coleman and Brett Deledio won the Rising Star.
  • Aaron Naughton was 4 and a half years old.
  • The number one song in Australia at the time of his debut was Jesse McCartney’s Beautiful Soul and Vin Diesal’s The Pacifier was enjoying a two-week run as the country’s most watched film.
  • The first video ever uploaded to Youtube was on April 23, the exact day of his debut.  It was called ‘Me at the Zoo’.  It’s since been viewed 53,230,559 times.
  • Four days earlier, Pope Benedict XVI was elected, and John Howard was prime minister. We’ve had four since.
  • We’ve also had three American presidents and five premiers of Victoria
  • Rove McManus was the reigning Gold Logie winner and Kate DeAraugo won the third season of Australian Idol.
  • The release of the first iPhone was still two years away, TheFacebook became Facebook, Twitter was a year away, Instagram was five years away, and Snapchat, six.
  • And if you were a dog born on April 23, 2005, you’d be 91-years-old.
