Fit and fresh in mind and body, Ayce Cordy has been given an opportunity in 2014 that has previously eluded him – an uninterrupted run of competitive football.

While injuries have interrupted his development in former years, the 23-year-old is embracing a sound body and the continuity in his football is beginning to show.

“Consistency is something I’ve worked on a lot and it’s been really good this year,” Cordy said.

“From a personal point of view I’m probably feeling the best I ever have since I got here.

“At the moment I’m fit and healthy, and I’ve played every game I could have played this year and I haven’t missed any training sessions which has been really good.”

One of the tall targets in Footscray’s forward line, Cordy has been hitting the scoreboard with more regularity, including a five goal haul in round one against Richmond’s affiliate.

“There’s times where I have been gloving really quite well and there are times that I haven’t,” he said.

“You live and die by the sword as a key forward and that’s something I’ve got to bring to my game consistently.

“It’s something that I’m going to be working on until the day I stop playing football.”

Combining with Campbell in the ruck, Cordy is averaging over 26 hitouts per match which has also helped bring him into games and build confidence.

“Currently we have myself and Tommy Campbell playing… down at Footscray there and we are having a reasonably good year,” he said.

“The VFL boys are starting to come on as a group and a unit.

While Cordy knows of the weight a key forward bares, he is enjoying the versatile role and said he will continue to work hard to produce results and play his part in the team.

“There’s… a high standard at training which we are trying to set and everyone wants to see the key forwards playing well and marking the footy and kicking goals,” he said.

“That’s what we want to see as well, I know certainly I am personally working as hard as I can – the results in time will come.”
