The Western Bulldogs have fallen to Carlton by 13 points, going down 7.5 (47) to 5.4 (34) in Round 14 of the VFLW at Mission Whitten Oval.
The Bulldogs came out firing, kicking three goals in the opening quarter to establish an early advantage.
Both sides competed fiercely around the ball, with the hosts working hard to keep their lead.
The Blues fought back late in the second term though, finding more control in attack and levelling the scores at the main break.
The teams traded goals in the third quarter, with neither side able to break away and Mary Sandral’s crucial major keeping the Bulldogs within striking distance heading into the final term.
Carlton gained an early advantage in the final quarter, and despite a last effort from the Bulldogs, the Blues held on to claim the 13-point victory.
Ellie Bishop finished atop of the Bulldogs' stats with 27 disposals, while Ellie Gavalas collected 26 disposals and five tackles.
Both Mary Sandral and Olivia Jesser kicked 2 majors each, while Jaimi Tabb notched up 10 tackles.
The Bulldogs will next look ahead to Saturday 22 August when they play Darebin at Preston City Oval.
