A three week sideline stint for Matthew Boyd has been ended, with the veteran midfielder named in the Western Bulldogs side to face top of the table Port Adelaide on Saturday afternoon.

Boyd is the sole change to the winning Bulldogs side that defeated Collingwood last Sunday, replacing injured midfielder Adam Cooney.

Assistant Coach Rohan Smith said Boyd's inclusion is an important one for the road-trip to Adelaide to face the in-form Power.

“[Boyd brings with him] experience, [he is] ruthless, competitive, a player that just does not give up, a player that will push himself to the limit,” Smith said.

“We know that Boydy has done that for a long period of time so that is what he brings to our team and the boys will hopefully compliment that when he comes back in.”

A five goal performance from Mitch Honeychurch in the VFL last week sees him again inching closer to an AFL debut, named as an emergency for the fifth time this season.

Strong VFL form from Jake Stringer and Sam Darley also saw them close in the selection mix, completing the emergency list of three alongside Honeychurch.

The Bulldogs go head-to-head with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday 21 June 2014, with the first bounce scheduled for 1:15pm local time (1:45pm AEST).
