Matthew Suckling joined the Western Bulldogs as an unrestricted free-agent at during the 2015 AFL Trade Period. Suckling was recruited from the Hawthorn Football Club, in which he was a member of their 2014 and 2015 AFL Premiership sides. With an elite left foot kick, Suckling a medium defender and outside midfielder, is known for his elite kicking ability and work rate. Suckling played 102 games for Hawthorn between 2009 and 2015, after initially being rookie listed by the Hawks with pick 22 overall in the 2007 AFL Rookie Draft Suckling played 17 games in his first season at the Kennel. Lured from Hawthorn in 2015, Matthew Suckling notched his 150th AFL game (Round 9) as well as his 50th game in Bulldogs colours (Round 11) in 2018. Suckling played 11 games before an achilles injury ultimately ended his season. He averaged 24.5 possessions and 5.5 marks. In Round 4 against Sydney, he collected 28 disposals and 11 marks. Returning for his 11th season in 2019, the Bulldogs will welcome Suckling’s long range and accurate left boot.
