The west of Melbourne is one of the most culturally diverse areas in the Country, making it a vibrant cultural melting pot and a major success of modern, multicultural Australia.

But unfortunately during the pandemic, access to critical care, information and resources has become very difficult for many in these communities due to language, transport and other cultural barriers.

The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation was proud to work with the Department of Health this week, to ensure access to Rapid Antigen COVID-19 tests for those who need them most.

As part of a State Government initiative to distribute free Rapid Antigen Tests to priority groups and at-risk cohorts, VU Whitten Oval was transformed into a collection point for community groups and organisations from across the West to collect test kits for equitable distribution to community members.

The distribution point is part of a long-standing commitment from the Western Bulldogs to break down inequalities during the pandemic, following the success of vaccination hubs at VU Whitten Oval last year, and a series of webinars designed to inform the community on a range of COVID-19 related topics.

Western Bulldogs General Manager – Community and Government Relations, Kashif Bouns said that it’s crucial the Bulldogs show support on this type of initiative.

“Ensuring we can help break down the barriers that exist for some members of our community in accessing testing, vaccination and information about COVID-19 is very important for us at the Western Bulldogs as a responsible member of our community,” said Bouns.

“We are committed to working with all levels of Government and other partners to ensure the most vulnerable members of our community have access to the Rapid Antigen Tests, and we were very eager to provide Victoria University Whitten Oval as a distribution location.”
