Western Bulldogs midfielder Jess Fitzgerald is hoping for a colourful and electric crowd in Pride Round this Sunday at VU Whitten Oval.

In what will be the fifth instalment of the annual Pride match against Carlton, Fitzgerald said her favourite part of it all is seeing the crowd be themselves.

“It’s pretty incredible to be part of - I’ve had the pleasure now of being both a spectator and a player, and can say from both perspectives it’s been absolutely brilliant,” Fitzgerald said.

“I just love that everyone can show up and be their full selves, and not have to worry about not being included - it’s for everyone.

“The crowd is honestly one of the best parts of it – they’re just so electric and make the game good.”

Last year’s Pride match was one to remember for the 19-year-old, who in her second game of AFLW notched up her first win, first goal and a NAB AFLW Rising Star nomination.

The Bulldogs also triumphed in the inaugural match in 2018, before the league-wide round was introduced for the 2021 season.

“Every year it levels up, and I think it’s incredible,” Fitzgerald said.

“It’s a credit to the AFL and everyone involved. Each year the guernseys go up a level, the crowd gets bigger – if that’s what we can continue to do in the years to come it will be fantastic.

“We have a spectacular design this year– meaning we’re prepared to learn, progress and be inclusive. I think it’s pretty cool.”

Designed by Natalie Gills, the 2022 Pride guernseys will be auctioned off online post-match.

There will also be a range of Pride merchandise available for purchase from the Bulldog Shop from later this week.
