2021 SUMMARY

Western Bulldogs 8th (5-4) 88.2%

Geelong 13th (1-8) 40.2%

LAST MEETING

Round 3 2021

Western Bulldogs 3.6 (24) def. Geelong 1.3 (9)

The Bulldogs snuck away with the win last time the two sides met, which was the only round three match to be played in front of fans following the state’s snap lockdown last year. With just one point the difference in the last quarter at GMHBA Stadium, the Dogs found two late goals to record back-to-back wins. Skipper Ellie Blackburn starred with 25 touches and nine tackles, while Jess Fitzgerald kicked a Goal of the Year contender.

TALKING POINTS

Two to come in

The Bulldogs will be forced into making at least two changes for the clash, losing Aurora Smith (ACL and meniscus) and Brooke Lochland (concussion) in the thrilling round six win over Adelaide. Jemima Woods and Ellyse Gamble were named the emergencies last weekend, while Elle Bennetts, Annabel Strahan and Amanda Ling also loom as potential inclusions.

Cranston takes on former side

Friday night will see Bulldogs’ recruit Rocky Cranston go head-to-head with her former side for the first time. Cranston played 21 games for Geelong across three seasons, before joining the Kennel during the 2021 Sign and Trade period. Assistant coach Mel Hickey will also be a familiar face to Cats fans, having played 12 games there as the inaugural captain, before retiring at the end of the 2020 season.

Five-day break

For the second time this season, the Bulldogs will come off the back of a five-day break. They’ve proven they’re up for any challenge though, having knocked off the previously undefeated Crows away last Sunday, and with the home-ground advantage will be keen to continue their winning form.
