Western Bulldogs head coach Nathan Burke says he couldn’t have been prouder of his side’s 60-point demolition over the Eagles at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

The win puts the Bulldogs just two points out from a top six position, needing a win over Brisbane in round 10 and some other results to go their way to qualify for the 2022 finals series.

“I wasn’t quite sure how we’d be, to be totally honest - we flew over on Friday night, landed at about 11.30pm Melbourne time and a lot of the girls said they didn’t sleep that well,” Burke told media post-match.

“It’s a long day to hang around – when the game starts at 9.40pm Melbourne time that’s when their body clocks are sort of starting to slow down a bit.

“I challenged them to really have a full four-quarter effort, and they did that. I’m super proud of their efforts and what they had to overcome.

“We’ve got a really tough (opponent) in Brisbane next – you’d love it to be totally within your hands, but the part that is within our hands is beating Brisbane.

“If we don’t beat Brisbane, then (the other results) don’t really matter. We’re still alive, which is all we can ask for.”

In a well-rounded team performance, the Bulldogs had six contributors on the night, led by Brooke Lochland with three goals, and Bonnie Toogood and Nell Morris-Dalton adding two majors each.

A third of the team also registered 15 disposals or more.

Burke said it was pleasing for his side to share the load while still impacting individually.

“Tonight it was ‘this is the plan we want’, which we managed to execute, but they still had really good individual games,” Burke said.

“It shows you can still do both. Each quarter, we made a tweak to the plan, and the players really tried hard to put that tweak into action, but still play really well themselves.”

The Bulldogs will finish the home-and-away season when they host Brisbane at Mars Stadium in Ballarat this Sunday.
