FEATURE: Treloar reaches double century

When asked what Adam Treloar was most excited about heading into his 200th AFL game, the answer was swift and simple.

When asked what Adam Treloar was most excited about heading into his 200th AFL game, the answer was swift and simple.

“Georgie (my daughter) is coming down, she’s never been on a footy oval with me, and will run through the banner with me, which will probably be my proudest moment,” he said.

“There will probably be a few tears.”

In essence, that summarises the man that is Treloar.

Open, honest and a family man at his core, the 29-year-old has had one of the most unique journeys to the 200-game milestone in recent history.

Drafted as an under-age selection prior to the 2010 Draft, the midfielder found his way into the GWS side early in his fledgling career.

A 39-disposal game in Round 18 of his first season was the catalyst for a take-off, claiming a Rising Star nomination and setting a trajectory for an exciting campaign.

Four years at the Giants ended with a desire to be closer to family, that’s where Collingwood came knocking.

The Pies received Treloar at the perfect time as he began to develop into an elite midfielder within the competition.

In his first season, the dynamic on-baller played all 22 games, led the Club in disposals, tackles and clearances, finishing runner-up in the Copeland Trophy.

21 Brownlow votes later and Treloar instantly became a vital player in the Magpie line-up.

Following a Grand Final loss and several dominant seasons thereafter, Treloar became the centre of the 2020 AFL Trade Period.

In the final minutes, Treloar became a Bulldog and has made Whitten Oval his home ever since.

Arriving as a ready-made star, Treloar has once again been to the AFL summit, reaching the 2021 AFL Grand Final in Perth.

The impact of the midfielder has been immense, forming a strong bond with the players and contributing regularly on-field.

While the record will show that Treloar swapped orange for black and white before travelling across the West Gate to the Bulldogs, you won’t meet a more loyal and committed teammate than Adam Treloar.

Reflecting on his career to date, Treloar still has one football goal in mind.

“Hopefully by the time I’m done here, I can have that medal around my neck.”

After 200 games of heart and soul, you wouldn’t put it past him.
