Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Seven disposals, four tackles, two hitouts

Jamarra has been building nicely over the past couple weeks at VFL level. In this game he continued his strong contest form, gaining separation to win the aerial battle. He got to great positions by fighting hard through extra numbers on many occasions, but wasn’t able to bring in the marks. What really pleased us was his defensive game on the ground – his tackle pressure allowed the ball to stay in our half.

Hayden Crozier

28 disposals, 12 marks, eight rebound 50s

Hayden is putting together a very strong block of form at Footscray. His ability to set up well behind the ball is the difference between him and his opponents. He helps the whole team defend, and helps us turn dangerous opposition forays into our counter-attack. His intercept and spoil game was once again very strong.

Zaine Cordy

11 disposals, six marks, five rebound 50s

Zaine played the whole game in defence this week as we needed more size and experience after some personnel changes. He played 100% game time which his teammates hold in high regard. His ability to have superior positioning on his opponent allowed him to intercept well when the opposition challenged us with their ball movement, while his experience and leadership helps all of the younger players around him.

Josh Schache

18 disposals, nine marks, five clearances, nine hitouts, five goals

‘Shack’ split his time between playing forward and playing in the ruck. He was able to provide a great focal point for us ahead of the ball, and very reliable in front of goal - making the most of his opportunities. We felt his ruck work is developing really nicely, as he was able to both secure our stoppage at times and also exploit his opposition on the spread away.

Louis Butler

25 disposals, five tackles, 10 inside 50s, one goal

Louis played both on the wing and forward on Friday night. His ability to get up and down the ground with his big tank allowed him to get to plenty of contests, and impact positively for us. Butts is always working on his ability to hurt the opposition with his skills - which we are seeing come to the fore now.

Charlie Parker

12 disposals, five marks, five tackles

Charlie came out of the game at half time, which was a real shame as he was having his best performance since being drafted to the Club. He was strong in the aerial and ground contests - which he has been working on – while his ability to help us find dangerous avenues forward with the ball was also on show. He’ll be working hard to get back as soon as he can.

Dom Bedendo

12 disposals, four tackles, four clearances

Dom came out of the game at three-quarter time as he was an emergency for the AFL team playing later that night. He was strong around the stoppages as a winger, and we really liked what we saw from his tackle pressure. He has been hard at work at the contested side of his game and is now showing this week-in, week-out which is a huge credit to him and his hunger to improve.

Arthur Jones

Nine disposals, three marks, three inside 50s

Arty played most of his game on the wing with a little bit of forward time. He didn’t have a huge involvement in the game, but his running ability was a standout. We just need to keep working with him to find more ways for him to impact the game.

Luke Cleary

11 disposals, three rebound 50s

Luke came back into the VFL team after being medi-sub for our AFL team vs West Coast. Whilst he didn’t have a huge impact on the game, he was pretty steady for us in defence. He was able to halve his contests and then find avenues forward for us. He has come back with specific areas he wants to work on to help aid his run at his next block of senior games.

Roarke Smith

18 disposals, four tackles, four clearances

Roarke had a change of position this week, playing most of his minutes as an inside mid. He was strong around the contests both as an offensive distributor and as a pressure player - he tackled and competed well. We really like his patterns away from the contest which allowed him to fly for his marks and keep the ball in our half. He was critical to our win and added another string to his bow by moving inside for the team this week.

Jason Johannisen

Eight disposals, four marks, one goal

JJ was still on restricted minutes coming off a long injury layoff. His speed really challenged the opposition, and if we could have maximized his opportunities inside 50 he is most likely kicking a handful of goals. The main thing though is that he is getting through and feeling good, whilst also impacting games and leading our younger players ahead of the ball.

Cody Raak

16 disposals, seven marks, two rebound 50s

Cody had a similar game to Luke. He competed well at times and did what he needed to do, but we are just trying to find ways to help him get involved in the game more, while increasing his defensive output.

Jordon Sweet

12 disposals, four marks, seven inside 50s, 36 hitouts

Sweety came back to the VFL team after playing a block of AFL games. He was able to get his hand to the ball more often than not in the ruck battles around the ground, but at times we weren’t able to maximize the connections from ruck to mids. He continues to work on his game away from the stoppage to become a strong aerial player.
