In a week spent celebrating the greats of the Western Bulldogs Football Club, it’s the son-of-a-gun that will light up Marvel Stadium this weekend.

Wearing the jumper his father made famous, Sam Darcy will debut for the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The 209cm giant has carved out strong form in the VFL and couldn’t be ignored for the crunch clash against Fremantle, collecting 20 disposals and 14 marks in the win over Werribee.

Drafted is the second overall selection in the 2021 National Draft, Darcy has played across all lines to begin his time at the Bulldogs, displaying his talents in the backline most recently.

Picked as a forward for Vic Metro, Darcy will add plenty of versatility to the line-up and provide a contest at either end of the ground.

Speaking moments after Luke Beveridge announced the exciting debut, Darcy couldn’t quite believe his dream had come true.

“I’m just unbelievably excited at the moment,” Darcy said.

“I can’t wait to run out with the boys on Saturday night.”

“When the announcement was made, the energy was unbelievable and it is something I will never forget.”

Darcy will don the no. 10 for his debut in the ‘Robodog’ retro jumper.
