LAST MEETING

Western Bulldogs 3.10 (28) def. Geelong 2.4 (16)
Round 7, season six

The Bulldogs made it three straight wins after holding off a persistent Geelong outfit at VU Whitten Oval last season. The hosts controlled the game from start to finish, winning 75 more disposals and using it at nearly 67 % efficiency, with accuracy in front of goal preventing a much greater margin. Elisabeth Georgostathis enjoyed a breakout game with 23 touches, six tackles and a goal, claiming a NAB Rising Star nomination in the process, while usual ball-winners Kirsty Lamb (26, seven tackles) and Ellie Blackburn (22, three marks, four tackles) were among the best on ground.

TALKING POINTS

Bouncing back

The Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back from their round five defeat, but should be filled with confidence based on their history against the Cats. Since Geelong’s inception in 2019, they have met on three occasions, with the Bulldogs coming out on top every time.

50 for Rocky

The Bulldogs will celebrate a third 50-gamer on Saturday afternoon, this time in powerful midfielder-forward Rocky Cranston. After stints at Melbourne (2017-18) and Geelong (2019-21), the 33-year-old arrived at the Kennel ahead of season six and settled in seamlessly. Her impact is undeniable, and sets the tone for the playing group both on and off the field.

Celebrating the Community

Round six is set to also celebrate the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, and all that they do. Fans at the match will have an opportunity to hear from a number of graduates throughout each break, with program participants to also form the guard of honour pre-game and enjoy a lap of honour at half-time. You can learn more about the Foundation at the Fan Zone (located at the netball courts) on game-day, or head to westernbulldogs.com.au/foundation.
