Former captain and 1992 Brownlow Medallist Scott Wynd added Bulldogs’ Hall of Fame inductee to his long list of achievements in 2012.

A 237-gamer spanning 13 seasons, Wynd was one of the best ruckmen in the game at his peak.

Debuting in 1988 as an 18-year-old, he became the Dogs’ first-choice ruck the following year to feature in all but two matches.

Wynd enjoyed a career-best season in 1992, wining 411 hit-outs in 24 games to claim the Charles Sutton Medal, an All Australian blazer and football’s highest individual honour, the Brownlow.

Remarkably, he was just 22 years of age at the time.

“That year itself was our first experience of finals – for our group coming through at least. The Bulldogs had played in ’85 and got knocked out in the prelim, but hadn’t really gotten close to finals since,” Wynd shared on the Glory Days podcast with Bob Murphy in 2020.

“I just remember we got off to a great start. We had a really good mix of young guys coming through and the older more experienced too.

“It was just an exciting year – we sat in the top two for probably most of it. For a bunch of guys who had come through and hadn’t had success, it was just really exciting to be around the Club.

“I had a good year in the right year. I was favourite going into the Brownlow, but I didn’t feel like one. You just don’t expect that – you just go there and see what happens.

“I won with 20 votes. I wouldn’t even finish in the top 10 these days with 20 votes.

“I just consider myself very, very lucky.”

Wynd was then appointed captain from 1994 until his retirement at the end of the 2000 season, becoming the second-longest serving Bulldogs skipper behind Ted Whitten.
