Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli is a five-time All Australian.

It’s yet another accolade for the star midfielder this season, named in the centre at Wednesday night’s 2023 AFL Awards.

The 27-year-old led by example this season, averaging 27.7 disposals, 4.4 marks, 7.5 tackles and 7.6 clearances to go with 19 goals.

He finished the season third in Club history for most contested possessions (332), third for most inside 50s (131) and second for most tackles (172), while also recording the Bulldogs’ fourth-most clearances (175) of all-time.

Bontempelli reached his 200-game milestone in round seven against Hawthorn, becoming just the 23rd Bulldog to do so and the first of his draft class (2013) to reach the double-century.

His durability is something to marvel at too – having missed just six games since the start of 2015.

He was one of three Bulldogs to have been named in the 2023 All Australian squad, alongside Tim English and Tom Liberatore.

The official 2023 All-Australian selection panel comprises of: Gillon McLachlan (chairperson), Kevin Bartlett, Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Andrew Dillon, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane, Cameron Ling and Matthew Pavlich.
