Last Meeting

Round 5, 2022 (S7)
Western Bulldogs 4.4 (28) def. by North Melbourne 6.7 (43)

The Western Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season to the Roos last year, handed a 15-point defeat in front of a capacity crowd at Punt Road Oval. The Dogs had their moments - their ability to escape danger by hand was superb – and used the ball well around the ground, but poor decision-making going inside 50 allowed the opposition to intercept. The game broke open in the third quarter after a contested first half, as both sides found run and space to slingshot into attack, but a late surge from the Bulldogs was quickly quelled - with the visitors going on to kick the final goal of the game. Youngster Rylie Wilcox finished with two goals, Alice Edmonds continued to impress in the ruck, and Jess Fitzgerald registered 306 metres gained from 15 disposals.

Talking Points

Playing for Pride

This weekend will mark the 2023 AFLW Pride Round, which is dedicated to celebrating diversity and inclusion, and supporting the LGBTIQA+ community.

The Bulldogs, in conjunction with Carlton, were pioneers of the inaugural Pride Game in 2018, which has since blossomed into a league-wide round featuring all 18 clubs.

To mark the occasion, the Dogs will once again wear the transgender flag-inspired guernsey design - first introduced in season seven – with the 2023 iteration to feature two minor additions; a rainbow heart on the front-left of the guernsey and a rainbow outline around the playing numbers.

Match-worn guernseys will be auctioned off following the game, while exclusive Pride merchandise is available for purchase at the Bulldogs Shop.

Hunt reaches half-century

Co-vice captain Bailey Hunt will become the Bulldogs’ latest 50-gamer this Saturday, giving the team even more reason to celebrate.

The Premiership Bulldog is a much-loved figure at the Club, and one that has been around since the inception of AFLW.

Hunt was drafted with Pick 60 in the 2016 draft, and after eight seasons of resilience, perseverance and determination, has reached the elusive half-century.

She started her career with a bang – nominated for the Rising Star award in her debut – so let’s hope game 50 is of a similar nature.

Go well, Bails.

Cranston calls time

As announced earlier this week, forward Richelle ‘Rocky’ Cranston will play her final AFLW game this weekend.

Cranston arrived at the Kennel as a free agent ahead of season six, playing 25 games to date in the red, white and blue across three seasons.

Saturday will mark her fifth outing for the season, bringing her overall career tally to 60 matches.

The 34-year-old has endured health issues which have impacted her ability to train and play consistently, contributing to her decision to retire.

Don’t miss the chance to celebrate her AFLW career in Pride Round this weekend.
