Defender Bailey Dale has broken the all-time record for most disposals in a game by a Bulldog.
Dale notched up a massive 49 disposals in the 91-point win over Essendon, eclipsing previous record-holders Jack Macrae and Ryan Griffen (47 disposals).
Speaking to Channel 9’s Sunday Footy Show, Dale said it was a team effort.
“I love having the ball in my hand and being able to use it as well as I can,” Dale said.
“It helps when the midfield are winning it out of the centre and sending it forward. It allows us defenders to set up and play a really attacking brand.
“It was a good night.”
Dale was also full of praise for emerging midfielders Joel Freijah and Ryley Sanders, and defender-turned-ball-winner Ed Richards.
“We’ve got so much depth through our midfield,” he said.
“Joel Freijah and Ryley Sanders are young guys coming through, getting more midfield minutes…when they are in there, they are influencing too.
“Just being able to have so many guys roll through there, keeps the opposition on edge. They’re having great years.
“Ed just goes about his business. He’s got elite power and elite speed, and he’s kicking a lot more goals this year too.
“He deserves all the flowers that he gets throughout the week…I think he’s been sensational for us.
“That midfield change of role has really worked for us as a team, but it’s taken his game to the next level as well.”
The Dogs will face Geelong this Thursday night at GMHBA Stadium in the second week of Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
