The Footscray Bulldogs have held off a fast-finishing Sydney Swans outfit on Friday afternoon, registering a 14-point victory at Tramway Oval.

Showcasing their depth and unyielding work rate from start to finish, their first half proved the difference in the 8.11 (59) to 10.13 (73) result.

The Dogs burst out of the gates, establishing early control and setting the tone with a fast-paced opening quarter.

Luca Muratore and Caleb Poulter led the charge, with Poulter kicking his 21st goal of the season before quickly adding another alongside teammate Chan Hargraves within the first seven minutes of the match.

Lachie Jaques also made his mark, helping the Bulldogs storm to a 21-point lead by quarter time.

As the match unfolded, the Swans mounted a fierce fightback, applying relentless pressure and testing Footscray through the middle quarters.

But the Bulldogs remained unshaken, holding a commanding six-goal lead at half time. Their midfielders and defenders stood firm, repelling Sydney’s attacks and keeping momentum in their favour.

Riley Garcia was a standout in the middle, amassing an impressive 30 disposals, while Jordan Croft (24 disposals) and Jedd Busslinger (23 disposals) powered the ball forward with relentless energy.

Up forward, Muratore, Poulter and Hargraves each added two goals, while Jaques, Xavier Kardachi, Dan Orgill and Croft all made valuable contributions on the scoreboard.

In the backline, Taylor Duryea (22 disposals) and Ryan Gardner (20 disposals) were rock-solid, intercepting and rebounding with accuracy.

Meanwhile, Oskar Baker (20 disposals) added a touch of finesse, seamlessly linking defence to offence and keeping the team’s momentum flowing smoothly.

Footscray’s victory sets them up for a blockbuster Round 15 clash at Mission Whitten Oval, hosting North Melbourne on Friday 4 July with the first bounce at 4:05pm AEST.
