Drafted: Pick 10, 2019
Gavalas was drafted by North Melbourne with its first selection (Pick 10 overall) in the 2019 AFLW Draft. Coming from a soccer background – having played for the Tasmanian state representative team and Matilda’s U17’s national team – she made the switch to football in 2018. She then joined the VFLW Bulldogs and was named the 2019 Club Champion while being named in the 2019 Team of the Year.
First game: Round 1, 2020
It didn’t take long for Gavalas to join in on the action, named in North’s opening game of the 2020 season against Melbourne. She was solid on debut, finishing with nine disposals and four tackles in a two-point defeat. Gavalas went onto play every match of that COVID-shortened season, averaging 13 disposals, two marks and five tackles.
First goal: Semi-final, 2020
Gavalas booted her maiden AFLW goal in the Roos’ semi-final win over Melbourne. While they went on to win by two points, the AFLW season was cut short due to COVID without a premier awarded. Gavalas’ first goal in the red, white and blue came in the 42-point win over Collingwood last year.
Arrival at the Dogs: 2023 Sign and Trade period
Gavalas enjoyed a full circle moment when she returned to the Kennel at the end of 2023. She was part of a three-club trade, joining former VFLW teammate Mua Laloifi back in the red, white and blue.
