Western Bulldogs VFLW head coach Rhys Cahir will depart the Kennel after three seasons at the helm.
Cahir was first appointed ahead of the 2023 season, leading the team from a 13th-placed finish to a Grand Final berth just one year later.
The VFLW Bulldogs finished ninth in their most recent campaign.
Cahir pointed to successful player development and league-wide award recognition for Dom Carbone and Keeley Hardingham as highlights of his tenure alongside last year’s run to the Grand Final.
“Although I’m disappointed the Club wants to head in a different direction with the VFLW program, I walk away content knowing it is in a much better place than when I first took over,” Cahir said.
“While the Grand Final appearance last year was a highlight and something I’m very proud of, I’m just as proud of the several individual players that got the chance to play AFLW games or win individual honours from the program.
“I’d like to thank all the players, staff, families, friends and supporters who contributed over the last three years.”
Bulldogs General Manager of Women’s Football Patrice Berthold said the decision reflects the need for a refreshed approach that aligns with the evolving needs of the program and its integration with the AFLW structure.
“We extend our sincere thanks to Rhys for his dedication and passion for the VFLW program over the past three years,” Berthold said.
“His commitment to the team and the club has been significant, and his contributions are deeply appreciated.
“Rhys should be proud of his achievements during his time at the club, particularly leading the team to a Grand Final and playing a key role in the development of draft talent.”
