New Bulldog Connor Budarick says he is hopeful he can contribute to future success at the Kennel.
A Gold Coast SUNS Academy graduate, the 24-year-old said as difficult a decision it was to leave, he couldn’t be more excited about his fresh start in the red, white and blue.
“I’ve obviously lived most of my life up on the Goldy so it’s pretty hard to walk away from that – family, friends etc. and some great mates at the footy club,” he told Trade Radio on Wednesday morning.
“We (SUNS) had a great year this year too which made it even harder, but I think overall for my footy career I thought a change of scenery will be really good for me.
“To be able to play a bit more footy in the back half which is where I feel like I play my best footy – that opportunity has come up at the Dogs so I’m really looking forward to that.”
Budarick played 19 games this 2025 campaign, including both of the SUNS’ finals.
He said playing in September has only made him more motivated.
“I’m just really thankful (Gold Coast) gave me the opportunity to play nearly every week,” he said.
“I suppose you could say there was a push but I think for myself and my career, to be able to go and play in a position I feel like I can play my best footy in, it’s hard to reject.
“It was obviously great to get that taste of (finals) this year, and I’m obviously hungry to have it again.
“The Dogs have got a great group of players, great fans and a really proud history.
“I’m looking forward to going in and hopefully playing a small role in bringing some more success to that footy club.”
