The Western Bulldogs have picked Charlie O’Connor Moreira with their second selection in the 2025 Telstra AFLW Draft.
O’Connor Moreira is a speedy and competitive winger from the Western Jets.
She does not shy away from physicality, with an impressive ability to find space and then burst away with line-breaking pace.
She averaged 19.7 disposals, 4.1 marks and 5.4 tackles for the Jets this year after transforming from a forward over the past two seasons.
Here’s what Rookie Me had to say:
“Perhaps the most impressive aspect for O'Connor Moreira's rise in her top-age season was the fact she was delayed by an early season injury. Her first match came on May 10 for Williamstown CYMS Reserves and after four games she was recalled to the Western Jets where the winger would play nine matches for the season. What stands out in O'Connor Moreira's game is her ability to work hard into space, find the uncontested ball and then burst away to break lines and put pressure on the opposition defence.
As a winger, O'Connor Moreira is a defensively-minded prospect who does not shy away from the physicality aspect of football and in fact thrives on it, giving as good as she gets. Though not a big-bodied player by any means, O'Connor Moreira is a similar player to Collingwood's Violet Patterson in the sense that she might be lightly built, but her physicality pound-for-pound is up there with the very best. It is a point of difference compared to most wingers or outside prospects, but is the way the game is going with those types expected to apply more defensive pressure than ever before.”
