Western Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains is hoping to see plenty of red, white and blue at this Saturday’s home match against the Giants.
The Bulldogs enter the clash off the back of a gritty five-point win over the reigning premier Brisbane Lions on the road in Opening Round.
Bains said the win was significant and while it was only one game, it boded well for the season to come.
“It just gives you a nice springboard to launch into the season from – we know that the pre-season can be long and arduous, and there’s a significant build-up to that first game,” Bains told Whateley on SEN 1116 on Wednesday morning.
“For us, it was the first time we played in Opening Round as well, so an opportunity to be part of that (was special), and it obviously gives you a great start but it is only that one game of a lot to come.
“It's been a mixed start (for us) probably since 2021, where we had a really strong start to the season winning several games in a row.
“So to win first up, but to also beat an opponent like Brisbane, who are obviously back-to-back premiers at home and a really formidable side, that was pleasing as well.”
The win also inspired a number of Bulldogs fans take up a membership, as Bains revealed the Club’s tally is progressing towards 53,000.
“There were several hundred memberships sold over the weekend in response to (the win), and those numbers have continued to climb,” Bains said.
“We hit 50,000 members a couple of weeks ago in the fastest time we ever have, and we’re now close to 53,000 and chasing 70,000 members for the first time.”
Bains encouraged the Bulldogs faithful to show up on Saturday.
“With the game against the Giants this week and an opportunity to get back to Marvel Stadium, we’re imploring all of our fans to become members and turn up in droves on Saturday,” he said.
“We’re hoping to push beyond 30,000 (attendees) – it’s a family-friendly slot as well.
“We do play a lot of games at night, so we’re hoping with junior footy not having started yet, there’s an opportunity for families to get along and turn up in numbers.”
