Western Bulldogs defender Brit Gutknecht has put pen to paper on a contract extension, keeping her in the red, white and blue until at least the end of the 2027 AFLW Season.

Gutknecht has played 45 games since her debut in Round 4, 2020.

Having started her career as a forward, her move to defence last season paid dividends, averaging 16.4 disposals, 2.3 marks.

She also ranked No.1 in the team for average metres gained (298) and was the leading Dogs’ defender for kicking efficiency (69.4%).

Gutknecht’s efforts were also rewarded at the 2025 AFLW Best and Fairest, claiming a career-best Top 5 finish as well as the Most Improved Player award.

“We’re thrilled to have Brit commit for the next two years,” AFLW List Manager Dan Fisher said.

"She excelled in a new role last year where her composure, ball use and cleanness at ground level were important elements in a settled defensive unit.

"After an interrupted start to her career, it’s been great to see her get continuity as one of six players who has played every game for us over the past two seasons.

"We look forward to her continued growth.”
